Getting Along in Japanese is a DVD video learning series which presents the Japanese language through familiar daily situations. The setting is a traditional Japanese inn where the hosts teach their guests to communicate using practical and current expressions.
Hosts Katsuya Kobayashi and Kaori Itakura introduce spoken Japanese through carefully dramatized skits designed to help beginning students learn to cope with everyday life in modern Japan.
In Episode Seven we learn the greetings used when entering a Japanese home, and vocabulary for socializing with your hosts. The visitor learns slightly more complicated sentence structures when describing gifts, home-made or purchased, and when replying to one's host about personal likes and dislikes.
Mr. Kobayashi teaches viewers how to reply correctly when being offered choices. After repetition of the key phrases in the skit Mr. Kobayashi has a brief special lesson with one student in which he quizzes him on polite language essential for any guest at a Japanese home.
Through a series of photos, Kaori then explains customs to be observed at the entrance and in the visiting room of a Japanese home.
Each DVD can be viewed straight through or in separate chapters, allowing access to individual segments for helpful repetition and easy learning.
