GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka DVD 1 (Hyb)
Cedrrick L. Shaw - May 11 2002 Rating: Pretty good! In a class by it self Gto is laugh out loud funny. It remind me a little like GOLDEN BOY. But, with out all the roaming. A person tries so hard to be a teacher with so many problems in his way. You want believe what the students do to hem, to make him change his mine. Onizuka handle the problem in his own way. That will make you watch more just to see what Onizuka will do next. I like it a lot it's a must see. Keith J. Canzoneri - Jun 24 2002 Rating: Wonderful! My favorite anime of all time Out of all of the anime I've seen, this one holds a special place for me. It's definitely my favorite television show of all time. Like the movies Office Space and Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, given a few years, I'm guessing this will be one of those cult classics that people will look at you strangely if you admit to not having seen them. 110% recommended, though I enjoy the subtitles much more than the dub. It's not that the dub is bad, but for something this good, it seems appropriate to keep in it's original language. Also, check out the manga as well. I'm one of the few people that enjoy the anime more, but the manga explains situations much more fully instead of glossing over it, which is what the anime does to a certain extent. I'll cut down to the chase here...GTO is a good movie BUT voice casting in Onizuka is..."rough", so to speak. (I recognize his voice as Shishio in Rorouni Kenshin). AN AMAZING SURPRISE!!! Well, I just happened to pick up this title at the local Best Buy because it seemed really interesting from reading the back cover: "Meet Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old virgin and ex-biker. He's crude, foul-mouthed, and has a hair-trigger temper. His goal: to be the Greatest High School Teacher in the World. Unfortunately, the only teaching job available is at Holy Forest Academy(no certification required). There he uses his street smarts to deal with colleagues and students alike. GTO is the runaway hit from Japan based on the hugely popular manga series by Tohru Fujisawa. The finale of the live action version of GTO was the most watched TV program ever in Japan." -Back Cover Overview I have to say that GTO has become one of the greatest japenese animation series I have seen so far. It has an incredible sense of humor and superb voice acting. Yes, the dub is great, even comparable to my all time favorite series, Cowboy Bebop, which of course features David Lucas(Spike Spiegel), Wendee Lee(Faye Valentine), and Beau Billingslea(Jet Black), who are three of the greats in one rare setting. The big surprise was that GTO also features David Lucas and Wendee Lee together again!!!!!! They are what make GTO so good, I mean it doesn't get any better than this. If you are the even slightest Cowboy Bebop fan, pick this title up, you'll love it. I had no idea it even featured David Lucas and thats why it was such a great surprise. So, be sure to check GTO out. It has comedy treats around every corner and very interesting situations that Onizuka gets into, and most of all it's not just a silly slap happy animation because it also has heart and without it, you just can't "feel" the character's true emotions. Onizuka is the one man for laughter and action I've heard this series compared to Golden Boy a lot but I probably enjoy GTO more than even that series (Which i never thought I would) is because it's more diverse, not only the action and drama, but also the material used for the humor is widespread and it keeps things rolling. I recommend this dvd and the whole series in general for all anime/non-anime fans alike. Check it out!!! Riccardo A. Roccisano - Apr 29 2004 bubblegumbebop@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! a very respectable anime I know this is personal opinion, but great teacher onizuka is one of the best anime's i've ever seen. though sometimes when onizuka gets pissed off he makes a really wierd face, but even that doesn't way it down for me. It's very creative plot wise. it has some of the most interesting conflict to come out of characters. and it's one of those anime's where you'll probably just keep wanting more. it's also very original, which is surprising for most new anime's especially from all of the recycled junk that madman keeps introducing. that stuffs all the same crappy please teacher humour, but this is in a league of its own. whatch the first episode, if that doesn't get ya then i have no idea what will. |
