awesome
i love the bubblegum crisis series. in fact, 2040 is my third favorite series overall. it's got a great storyline, wonderful animation, and excellent voice acting for both the subbed and dubbed versions (they is also a spanish version on this dvd but, since i don't understand spanish all that well, i can't tell you if it is any good or not).

i also love the fact that bgc 2040 is now a darker more violent version of the older bgc. gone are the humor of the original and replaced with sexual politics. even the characters have different personalities from the original eventhough they are the same group of people. this series also delves a little more into priss's private life. if you've seen the original and understood the innuendoes than you know what i'm talking about. anyway, this is an awesome series that should not be missed by any anime fan.

Great Start, but the quality TANKS at the END!!
The first 15 episodes or so were pretty good, expanding in areas of character relationships and technical details that the original series didn't. Unfortunately, the animation QUALITY and the STORY take a DIVE to DumpVille for the rest of the episodes. Did they run out of money to pay the animators?

Oh well, too bad. It could have been really good...

Had A lot of possibility, but blew it once the series really got going.
I would like to point out that there is very little in common with the original OVA series. This seems to be very much based on the character of Linna. It has a "Magical Girl" type feel to it, and the last few episodes made me think that I was almost watching "Sailor Moon" instead of a BGC. The new character designs were great, but they changed the characters so much that you almost don't recognize them (For instance: Quicny was a weak old man that wasn't near as cunning as he was in the original series and lets Mason (Who never becomes Largo in this remake) get the best of him). Also, it turned into a "Stop the rouge boomer of the day" type ordeal (Once again, like a Magical Girl "Stop the Youma of the day"). If I remember correctly, that was not the plot of the original. There were boomers that were a threat, but they were usually relased on the population by Genom to test their capabilites against the AD Police so they could rate the performances of the boomer. In this series they just went "rouge" and Genom covered it up. Also, the boomers and just low-level servents of human that you could defiantely tell the diffrence from humans and with limited intelligence. In the original they could be just as intelligent and look just like humans (Like Sylvie, who never made an appearence in this series either). All in all it was horribly disappointing and i do not reccomend it to fans of the original OVAs.

This is the way a sequel should be made
This is the way sequels to the originals should be made !! If you are a fan of the original Bubblegum Crisis series then you will really enjoy this.

For one thing they are using the new style of animation in this one. This sequel takes place about 4 or 5 years after the original one. This time the story takes a deeper/darker look into each of the Knight Sabers and starts to reveal the skeletons in their closets (especially the owner/director of the Knight Sabers - she has some serious skeletons in her closet).

Also Priss the Rock Star is no longer the hot item she was (her star has fallen) and is trying to just survive on gigs in bars. This sequel to the orginal Bubblegum Crisis is a must see!!

My only compliant is that towards the end of the movie we are fighting werid looking robots that grow to the size of almost a small city. I wish they had gone back to the orginal concept of fighting illegal rebuilt robots who had had their cpu's replaced with bad 3rd party parts.

But it is still a MUST SEE for those who liked the orginal series!!!

Not the best yet better then the origanal
Well,I origanly was seeing this tape as the VHS were being realesed. However, once I heard of the collection I had to grab it and grab it I did. Now while this is better then the origanal offering realesed in the states by Animeigo it does at times still have it's problem's. Take the good with the bad in this case however as I see it. Besides my opinon is just that MINE not your's so take a chance. After all that is one of the things I truly love about this medium is that so many people see such diffrent perspictives on the same subject.

For those wanting to know what I did and didn't like about the show here is what I have to say. Animation wise it was nothing short of top notch and drew me in quite quick. Second the voice acting(both dub and sub had me hooked. I know that some people are sub only but I started out on dub. I do believe that the longer you go the more you lean towards the sub though.)was outstanding and the vocies fit the charecters. Music was better then I thought. The only thing that kinda brought it down was the end. It kinda left you haning and not in a good way. It made say oh. Well what is gonna happen with that. All in all it is worth adding to the collection of any an Otaku(however, don't trust me on that one as Im known to gobble up any seires I can lay my hands on.) Give it a try what do you have to lose?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As much as I liked the original series, I thought I would check this out after seeing some interesting reviews of it. Am I glad I did! It took the original concept of BGC and expanded it, reworked it, twisted it, to create a fresh new look on an old classic. 24 episodes that sucked me in from the beginning to the end. The animation and story were spectacular. If you liked BGC and would like to see a completely new spin on the storyline, I highly recommend this title! I got more than my moneys worth out of it(one of my new all-time favorites)!
