A.k.a. "A Hardest Night," a classy Japanese comedy set in the world of Rakugo (traditional Japanese comic storytelling) - or at least, it would be if it weren't full of unbelievably raunchy jokes and stories! A dying patriarch's misunderstood final wish sets in motion a torrent of hysterical reminiscences as the remaining family members and apprentices celebrate the lives of the dead in a series of wakeful nights.

The Ginza Butterfly Nami (Meiko Kaji) is back in a new story that finds her on the hunt for Hoshiden, the man who killed her gambler father when she was only a child. Arriving in Tokyo, Nami takes a job as a hostess in a swank Ginza club, all the while combing the back-alleys and gambling dens for news of Hoshiden's whereabouts. Local street entrepreneur Ryuji (Sonny Chiba) joins her in the search, and eventually in a bloody raid on the yakuza headquarters where Hoshiden, now living incognito under an assumed name, is hiding out.

Gang leader Nami kills a member of a yakuza group and goes away to prison. Upon her release three years later, she returns to the city to live with her uncle, a billiard-hall owner, and after befriending pimp and ne'er-do-well Ryuji, she gets a job working at a hostess club in the chic Ginza neighborhood. But when a rival gang attempts to muscle in on the club, Nami becomes enmeshed in a violent struggle that forces her to wield a skilled pool cue to defend her uncle's business, and eventually wreak bloody vengeance upon her enemies.

The year is 1988. Aliens from the Empire of Galaxies establish a base on Venus and launch a surprise attack on Earth. As the invaders' spaceships quickly defeat the world's armies and destroy New York, Moscow, Paris, and London, a United Nations Space Bureau team led by Professor Takigawa manages to finish construction of Earth's last line of defense, the space battleship Gohten.

One night, Kazuyoshi Tamai sees several young men getting beaten up on the street. When he finds out Takeshi Hamada was the ring leader behind the beatings, he hopes to challenge him. But he's just missed Takeshi, who ran off looking for Kazuyoshi. Years later, Kazuyoshi has become Japan's bantamweight boxing champ, while Takeshi is the toast of the pro wrestling world. The two brawlers are about to meet at last in the match of their lives!

Agent 999 is sent to a rural Chinese village to arrest a bandit called "Rolex," who sports a tattoo of a fist on his chest. Upon arriving, Agent 999 begins to suspect that something is wrong, and it soon transpires that cannibals, addicted to the flesh of strangers, populate the village. Agent 999 and an unlikely bunch of good guys decide that they must overthrow the evil chief of the village and escape.

When a Woman Ascends the Stairs is the story of Keiko (Takamine Hideko), a bar hostess in Tokyo's very modern postwar Ginza district, who entertains businessmen after work. Sly and resourceful but trapped, Keiko comes to embody the conflicts and struggles of a woman trying to establish her independence in a male-dominated society.

When Hiroki's boss goes missing, it's up to him and the boss' daughter Rie to figure out what's happened. A story of police corruption and yakuza intrigue with a sub plot of romance between Hiroki and Rie, Director Shinji Aoyama pulls out all the cinematic stops.

Enlisting the help of the (real-life) Japanese rock/punk band Guitar Wolf (and self-proclaimed coolest rock band in the world), Ace and the members of the band get entangled in many misadventures with crazy rock managers in very tight shorts, transsexuals, naked women shooting guns in the shower and blood-thirsty zombies ready to tear them apart!

Spectacular aerial photography highlight this program with scenes shot from within the cockpit of the Japan Self Defense Force's mainline fighter jets. Supersonic predators such as the F-15, F-2, E-2C, RF-4E roam the sky in this 2nd in a series of programs from director Kenji Kodama, the only civilian in Japan allowed to film inside the cockpits of Japan's Challengers.

Emblazoned with a Cobra on their tail wings, 7 F-15DJ "Aggressor" attack jets make a grand appearance. These are the planes of the Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF), the supersonic hunters that defend Japan. Watch as the Japanese make F-1 cuts across the sky, see the B-747-400, also known as the Japanese "Air Force One," and feel the adrenaline rush from the various planes of the JSDF.
