DO NOT BUY!!!! “The Slayers” is a GREAT show, but the time and effort that has been put into producing this series on DVD was REALLY pathetic! I REALLY enjoyed watching slayers and decided to purchase it for myself. When "The Slayers" was first release on DVD there was an original audio issue that caused audio to have an echo, play out of the speakers incorrectly (animeondvd.com reported these) or have no audio at all. Because of this, instead of doing a recall (which would OBVIOUSLY make the company go bankrupt) they decided to RE-release it. This was a problem though, because of the INCOMPETENT DVD mastering workers in charge of encoding and programming this DVD cause a NEW audio issue, some of the audio in select episodes (Japanese audio ONLY affected again) did not play correctly on surround sound systems (hmm…sound familiar?!?). I actually originally purchased a copy of the FIRST EDITION of the new release from a store and returned it only to find out about these audio issues later. After finding out that Righstuf was in charge of the exchange program I figured I could order it (again -_-;) from them and have a GOOD copy of “The Slayers”!!! Upon receiving this copy of “The Slayers” (I have NO CLUE what motivated me) I decided to skip near the end of the series to watch (probably because I had watched the first half MANY times) and MUCH to my surprise the audio in EPISODE 18 was HALF A SECOND AHEAD OF THE VIDEO!!! I usually check the other audio track and I did the same here. EVEN MORE to my surprise, the ENGLISH audio was WORSE OFF being ONE AND A HALF seconds ahead of the video!!!!!!! I have MAILED my DVDs back TWICE and STILL have this same issue. I have also found out this appears to be an issue for other people too. This new manufacturing error bye Software Sculptors and Central Park Media shows THEIR INCOMPETENCE at making DVDs. RightStuf is a GREAT company and they worked really hard to help me though this issue with these “The Slayers” DVDs, and I recommend that if you have the opportunity to purchase anime online to DEFINATLY DO IT FROM THEM. They have been the BEST and the MOST FRIENDLY company that I have order stuff from online!!! PLEASE take your money and use it for something MORE USEFUL ON THIS SITE!!! This series is worthless to buy!!! If I had to do it all over again I would buy ANOTHER series and possibly just buy this series on VHS, which does NOT CONTAIN this issue!!!! I would rather spend more money on BOTH copies of the VHS than to WASTE my money on this poor quality production. PLEASE SUPPORT RIGHTSTUF and DO NOT SUPPORT THIS DVD (if enough people complain they might fix it! They were REALLY rude to me when I e-mail them about this issue and told me that there is no problem (countless others have told me it was on their copy too and they purchased it from other places) and to contact the place I purchased it from. Jellyfish brain This series is very funny and wholesome enough to let younger children watch and with enough action to keep them drawn to it. What really draws me to this are the Char's they have such in depth personalities which adds to the humor as the thoughts clash with the rest of the members of the group. The plot was pretty bland fantasy-anime-by-numbers, and corny to boot. Well, because Lina, Amelia and Gourry are frickin' hilarious! Lina's one of the cooles anime characters out there. Amelia's justice mongering made for some classic moments, and when prince/poppa phil got involved, oh man. The instances where Lina and Gourry's personalities bumped heads, for instance, the episode where Lina and Gourry make chibi clones of themselves and they start going at it, and all the little Lina's kick the snot out of the little Gourry's, man I was in tears. It got serious for a minute, but the staff made sure that wouldnt happen, not without a struggle, as Zelgadis points out. You need to watch this. Despite it's textbook anime plot it is still among the best character driven/comedy series out there. Jesse Hausler - Sep 14 2005 Rating: Wonderful! A terrific twist on the fantasy genre Oh, no! The CPM version of "Slayers" is about to sell out? Whoever snags the last one should feel fortunate, as I shudder to think what is going to happen to this series once Funimation gets ahold of it. Anyway... "Slayers" is often considered the definitive humor-fantasy anime, with good reason. Whether it's moronic swordsmen, cowardly thieves, flat-chested sorceresses, or ticked-off mummies, this show always manages to make you laugh. Like one other person said, "Slayers" happens to be very character-driven (with characters this good, it's a huge plus). The opening and ending songs are both great, though the BGM is pretty average. Both language tracks are well-done here; the Japanese actors are fantastic and the English dub actors do a stellar job, too. Still, most of this stuff isn't that relevant. As I said earlier, it's the mix of great characters and warped humor that will keep you coming back for more. In short, this hilarious romp with Lina Inverse and her cohorts is well worth buying.
