Super Gals DVD 1 (Hyb): GALS Gotta Have Heart + Artbox
Recent reviews of titles here: Toward the Terra DVD Complete Collection (S) - Anime LegendsCarolyn Thomas - Jan 2 2010 Rating: Pretty good! Great sci-fi series, a must see Sci-fi and Shojo are two genres that rarely mix, but when they do, the result is almost always something unique, original, and engaging that usually involves psychics to some degree. Toward the Terra has all of this and does it well. This 2007 series was based on a late 70s manga that had already gotten a movie of it made in the 80s, so one might expect the whole thing to feel stretched out given that neither of the other versions are particularly long, but the story really doesn't feel either rushed or stretched. It moves at a blistering pace to be sure and something is always happening to further the plot, but it never feels too fast either. My one complaint is with some of the characters who don't feel like they get developed as much as they should be or that they get developed off screen, but the story, setting, music, and interesting character interactions more than make up for it. My one major complaint is that this is one of the victims of the wave of sub-only releases. The subs are still good and are legible without being too big or long, but I wish Bandai would get back to dubbing things. The manga that the series is based off of is a shonen, but this series still feel more sci-fi shojo to me. Baccano! DVD Complete Series (Hyb) Rustin B. Do you believe in fairytales? Having grown up watching aninme....I fell into my love of Kdramas when my daughter was born. This is a wonderful,charming, funny, sweet romance. It is set in modern times, if Korea still had a King in the palace. The buildings, costumes & old world culture is really cool. The meeting & sometimes clash of the old meeting new in this tale leads to some pretty funny moments. If you are new to watching Kdramas. This is a wonderful place to start. The lead actress Yoon Eun Hye is a great actress. If you love her in this, (check out First Shop of Coffee Prince)another favorite of mine. Joo Ji Hoon does a fantastic job as the prince. Preisler - Jan 4 2010 Rating: Wonderful! Graphic The cartaters in the movie are very nice but I really think the Blonde was showen a little more and the main cartater was in more times. It was worth to have in your collection. Evangelion, Neon Genesis: 1.01 You Are (Not) Alone DVD (Hyb) Lind L. Tailor - Jan 5 2010 Rating: Wonderful! I loved it I pre-ordered this before it came out. The release date was the 17th and I got it on the 7th,but I'm not complaining. AS for the DVD itself i thought the voice actors did a fairly decent job and it was a nice touch that they were able to gather most of the original voice actors from the original series, and you can tell their voice acting has gotten better over the time this show last aired.Overall I was very pleased. Worth the Effort I had tried this series before and lost interest. The problem being I had been given disc #3 and started there. This is a strictly linear series. You pretty well have to start at the beginning to make sense out of what's going on so I was lost. I decided to give it another try and am glad I did. For those who will pay attention, it's one of the better efforts. The constant arcs through time kept me from grading it higher. In that respect, I found it needlessly confusing. Try it, you'll be glad you did. Kujibiki Unbalance + Genshiken OVA DVD Set (Hyb) - Litebox Ron Frechette - Jan 6 2010 ronaldfrechette@yahoo.com Rating: "Okay." worth it for the Genshiken OVAs I'm sorry to say the main feature here did not hold up to the OVAs on the first Genshiken season, at least it didn't give me as many belly laughs. The whole premise of the show is so patently absurd that when they try to be straight it just seems weird. There are still some laughs here, but not enough. Fortunately, it also includes bonus episodes of Genshiken which are gut-bustingly funny. Wouldn't pay first release prices, but light box, yeah it's worth it for Ohno's doujin preferences. Great gags, well acted by both casts. Can we name Rachel Lillis a national treasure? She's comic gold. |
